PURPOSE: The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Director of Operations and oversees a comprehensive preventative maintenance and repair program for all mobile heavy equipment used at all company facilities. This role is responsible to minimize downtime and repair costs by implementing an effective preventative maintenance program and diagnosing and repairing equipment before major damage occurs to maximize safe and productive operations.
COMPENSATION: $115,000 - $150,000, depending on experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a team of 4+ equipment maintenance technicians, including recommending hiring, evaluating performance, identifying training opportunities, coaching/counseling, and applying positive leadership principles.
- Determine repair priorities, assign and review work of several mechanics, inspect equipment, and monitor all maintenance activities, verifying the quality of work performed to ensure safety and productivity procedures are followed.
- Maintain records of all maintenance activities in fleet management software program (Fleetio); source parts and supplies needed for equipment or service based on competitive pricing, quality and availability.
- Train Equipment Operators on effective pre-operation inspections and preventative maintenance, the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment. With Site Supervisors, hold Operators accountable for caring for equipment.
- Timely and properly communicate significant needs or issues relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Director of Operations and COO; strategize and recommend best method to address major issues analyzing factors such as cost, downtime, rental equipment needs, etc.
- Keep safety as a top priority and maintain a clean service area and maintenance building.
- Develop and maintain healthy working relationships with all Waste Eliminator employees.
- Stay up to date on current maintenance technology and educate team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven leadership skills with minimum two years supervisory or progressively responsible experience in a lead role.
- Strong track record of maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy equipment, including compactors, excavators, dozers, off-road dump trucks, wheel loaders, and skid steers.
- Experience maintaining equipment of various manufacturers, including Caterpillar, Komatsu, Kubota, John Deere, Volvo and Wagner.
- Sense of urgency with ability to troubleshoot and prioritize work effectively to maximize productivity for all Waste Eliminator locations.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Effective computer software skills to enable effective record keeping.
- A high school diploma or G.E.D. certification; Heavy equipment mechanic school certification preferred.
- Ability to meet all physical requirements of the position including walking, twisting, crouching, lifting 50-75 pounds. Sufficient stamina for steady work pace throughout the day.
