The San Francisco Police Activities League (SFPAL) builds community by organizing youth sports and healthy activities that develop personal character and foster positive relationships among police officers, youth, and dedicated volunteers. We seek a Cheerleading Coach (stipend position) interested in supporting one of our longest-standing programs. A successful applicant should have the following qualifications.
● Successful completion of the YCADA “Youth Cheer and Dance Alliance” certification and “First Aid certification.
● Some experience as a Cheerleading coach at the middle school or higher level.
● Possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
● Possess some knowledge of the rules, regulations, and techniques of the sport.
● Some experience in cheerleading and dance.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
● Self-motivated and creative.
● Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coaches, parents, and participants.
● Willingness to learn and follow SFPAL 49ers policies and procedures.
● Comfortable working alongside police officer coaches.
GOALS: The Cheerleading Coach is responsible for organizing and executing the SFPAL 49ers
Cheer program. He/she is responsible for coaching participants in cheerleading techniques to prepare them for events.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Works with participants during practices and events.
● Creates choreography and cheers; organizes practice sessions.
● Monitors participants and recommends safe techniques, as well as warm-ups.
● Supervises participants at team-related events.
● Coaches and instructs participants.
● Establishes and maintains standards of appropriate behavior and provides proper supervision of participants at all times.
● Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
● Must understand current Pop Warner Cheerleading regulations and rules and be willing to seek advice when necessary.
● Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards participants, officials, and spectators.
● Follows established procedures for supplies and uniforms.
● Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, and other related records.
● Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
● Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities as required.
CLEARANCES: ( certification expenses will be reimbursed)
● Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
● YCADA “Youth Cheer and Dance Alliance” certification
● First Aid certification.
The Cheerleading Coach maintains a variable schedule and works the required hours to meet this position's duties and responsibilities, including some weekend work during the season. The Cheerleading coach will practice during the pre-season on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00. Once the season starts, practice moves to Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, with games on Saturday or Sunday. The coach should attend the entire duration of all practices and football games where the cheerleaders cheer. This position is stipend-based and ineligible for benefits.
